Lower Level Wine Cellar in Leawood, KS

Wine Cellar in Leawood - After

Arlene Ladegaard of Design Connection Inc. had already completed many projects in the client’s homes over the years and was excited for the challenge of designing a wine cellar in their unfinished basement. Wine Cellars come in many forms and styles. Our client’s had studied different styles of designs for many years as well as collecting over 1200 bottles of wine in all shapes and sizes. After living in their new Leawood home for a few years it was time to address an update on the lower level and design and build a wine cellar that was perfect for their use.

The design of this wine cellar in the unfinished basement was a challenge because it backed up to a wall where a large 80 inch flat screen hung. To keep the wine bottles from shaking from the vibrations of the flat screen it was important to have additional insulation between the rooms. The client has different shape and sizes of bottles which were accounted for by a moveable rack system. After many conversations with the client a large mirror was installed in the back to add interest and reflect back on all the bottles.

Arlene selected a weathered oak gray finish and used the same coloration on the floor for this space. The tasting area was also in this weathered oak finish and Cambria for the countertops with a chipped edge. The cabinet below was customized for various sizes of glasses for different wines. The ceiling and walls were painted cement gray and track LED lighting set the mood for this perfect space.

Design Connection Inc. provided- Space planning with complicated design elements, color selections, countertops selections as well as lighting design and selection. Project management was provided throughout this complicated process.
