Kitchen Remodel in Leawood, KS

Second Kitchen Update 2013

This beautiful Leawood custom home was built in 1997. The rave at the time this home was built was washed ash cabinet or picked as the common term was used. The home owner took the wall color Sherman Williams Urban Putty as a base for the finish on the cabinets. The appliances were black and Impala Black granite squares were used for the countertops. This was considered a high end kitchen for that time period. This kitchen was featured in Women World magazine in October 1998.

As kitchen and styles progressed the finish on these cabinets became dated quickly. The buying public was becoming aware through HGTV the new and upcoming styles. The washed cabinets were becoming dated and dark cabinets were the current rage. Our client decided to have the faux cabinets faux painted and the old black Jen Air appliances changed out to stainless. The window treatments, countertops were kept intact. This second picture reflects a featured article in July August 2005 for Kansas City Home Gardens Magazine.

The housing bubble came and went and the clients decided to stay in their home and once again make another change in the kitchen. We are now 2013. The island was changed out to accommodate a Wolf gas cooktop. The cabinets were refinish to reflected the changing of style. Drawers were used instead of cabinets with pull outs which allowed for greater storage. The crowning glory of this new island was Cosmos granite, an exquisite exotic with grays blacks and nuggets of graphite that sparkle with the overhead lights. New barstools were selected with gray leather with polished nickel nail heads. New cabinets were designed for the sink area because of wear. A new backsplash was installed with pewter accents and warm gray mosaic accents. Absolute black granite was selected along with a new Grohe faucet.

What sets this beautiful newly updated apart from the others in the neighborhood are the soft charcoal see though linen window treatments. They frame the windows but you can see right through them. New kitchen chairs with a contract chenille fabric with black table complete this stunning new look.

Design Connection, Inc. provided professional Kansas City interior design services, faux painting, window treatments, furniture granite and tile backsplash and labor, cabinets and cabinet design.
